A2 Substructures

Robust fire-safe substructures for high-rise balcony decking and paving

Our comprehensive range of durable, non-combustible steel pedestals, aluminium joists and other connectors, enable the quick, safe and accurate installation of suspended decking and paving schemes.

This robust, fire-safe range is ideal for use on balconies, terraces and flat roofs to improve the safety of high-rise living. In compliance with the latest UK fire safety regulations, which ban the use of combustible materials in or on external walls of mid-rise and high-rise residential buildings, all components of this range have a fire rating of Class A2-s1,d0 or better, to BS EN 13501-1.

In addition to being fire-rated, our A2 substructures provide exceptional flexibility, in terms of joist grid patterns and pedestal height and placement, enabling installers to navigate uneven substrates and obstructions, such as vents and drains, with ease.

When used in combination with our A2 EazyDeck aluminium decking or A1 EazyPave porcelain paving and decking, these substructures create a complete fire-rated outdoor flooring solution; suitable for both new-build apartments and refurbishment / remediation projects where non-compliant, warped or rotten materials are being upgraded.

EazyPed Steel Pedestals

Available in ten standard sizes to suit a height range of 26mm to 375mm (with larger sizes up to 675mm available on request), these fire-safe steel pedestals feature a high quality Zintec 200 coating for maximum corrosion protection, making them ideal for long-term outdoor exposure.

They can be used to provide direct support for paving slabs or as part of a pedestal-joist system to support paving or decking.

Top – Features a 95mm diameter flat head as standard that accepts a number of different headpieces to suit the application. See range below.

Stem – Pedestal height is adjusted via a threaded stem and fixed in place with the safety locking nut. Height can be adjusted even with top material layer in place.

Base – Free-draining, 100mm diameter, baseplate featuring 6mm and 10mm diameter drainage holes that can also be used to mechanical fix pedestal to substrate if required. Additional Spreader Plate base, 185mm diameter, is available to help reduce point loading on vulnerable sub-surfaces by distributing weight more effectively.

EazyPed Heads

A number of headpieces are available that click quickly and easily into EazyPed pedestals to cater for various applications.

Paving Head

Attached to either an EazyPed pedestal or EazyJoist rail, the Paving Head is a practical and efficient solution for securing EazyPave porcelain paving. Integral lugs position and hold tiles in place and provide a drainage gap. Various standard Paving Heads are available to suit tile layouts, including 4-way and 2-way options.

Tile Spacer

A simple 4-way tile spacer is available to clip into the standard EazyPed flat head.

Self-Levelling Head

The range includes a self-levelling head for paving applications, offering up to 5% of slope correction in all directions. It automatically and innovatively adjusts to create a perfectly flat upper surface, when receiving the slabs.

Joist Head

Manufactured from high-grade aluminium 6063 T6, this head securely fixes to an EazyPed pedestal with a screw, creating a robust fire-rated substructure when combined with EazyJoist rails.

EazyJoist Aluminium Rails

Engineered to achieve large robust spans up to 1000mm wide, while still being light in weight for ease of lifting and positioning, the EazyJoist range comprises both profiled box and I-beam designs; each providing a generous 60mm upper surface area for the fixing of EazyDeck aluminium decking. For paving applications, EazyJoist rails accept our standard Paving Head which slides into position along the rail to achieve precise tile alignment.

EazyJoist rails are available in 6 depths; 15, 20 and 25mm box rails are available in 2.5m lengths, and 50, 75 and 100mm I-rails are available in 3.6m lengths.

EazyJoist rails are attached to EazyPed pedestals, via the Joist Head, using our standard M8 bolt/wing nut kit.

EazyJoist rails can be joined end-to-end or at right angles with our stainless steel Fixing Brackets, either with self-tapping screws or our M8 bolt / wing nut kit; with the latter method providing installers with greater adjustability when setting out, ahead of manual tightening of the system in its final fixing position.

Rail-to-Rail Connectors

An EazyJoist rail-to-rail connector is available to stack profiles and build multi-layer grids. These aluminium connectors click onto EazyJoist rails, quickly and easily, creating a robust substructure system for larger height applications.

Pedestal-free EazyJoist Holders

There are two ways of installing an EazyJoist rail without the use of pedestals. Firstly, the Joist Head can be welded directly to a steel beam; alternatively, an EazyJoist Holder can be used to create a pedestal-free substructure as low as 17mm.
